Fasten your seat belts because motorists are heady for a roller coaster ride and whether you realise it or not; its already begun. Coming soon to a filling station forecourt near you - the Battle of the Batteries is about to ramp up as nations and international car makers start to consign the internal combustion engine to the history books.

Swedish carmaker Volvo announced that it will end production of internal combustion engines by 2020. France has announced it will ban all petrol and diesel engines from its roads by 2040.  Much smaller Norway hasn’t announced it yet but their aiming for 2025, the Netherlands too, and some German States are looking at 2030.

You might have been forgiven for dismissing the latest workplace technology as a gimmick but you’d have been wrong as the practice of micro-chipping workers is beginning to spread. A Grand Falls, Wisconsin company was first in the US to inject their 50 strong, work force with the rice grain, sized chips, ostensibly so they’re able to pass through security doors, log in to company computers and  access snacks from a vending machine. They were following the example of a Swedish firm, which chipped their workers for the same purpose.

There are some stories that quite literally make you want to skulk off, bowed your head with collective guilt, and deny you’re part of the human race. This is such a story. It happened thirty-nine years ago a tragic sight confronted walkers on a beautiful Welsh beach within sight of the famous castle at Harlech. There, washed up dead on the strand was an awesome specimen of sea life – a huge Leatherback Turtle.

Open Message from a concerned American to the U.K...

As an American who regularly visits the UK to enjoy the simple pleasures of eating in pubs where they know where their meat is sourced and their vegetables are grown. I love the fact that many of your butchers take pride in the fantastic quality of their meat. Even your supermarkets, the best of them at any rate, pay attention to welfare standards and sustainability.

It’s not the same in the United States where quality butchers are scarcer than hen’s teeth. And in the US most animals are raised in heartbreaking feed-lots and never graze on lush pastures.
